Prof. Jayanta Kumar Pal is Director of Dr. D.Y. Patil Biotechnology & Bioinformatics Institute under Dr. D.Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Pune and the former Professor & Head, Department of Biotechnology, Savitribai Phule Pune University. He is also the Founder Coordinator of DBT JRF Programme of the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt. of India. He is a fellow of the National Academy of Sciences, India (FNASc.) and a Fellow of the Maharashtra Academy of Sciences (FMAS). After a long stint of postdoctoral research abroad (Institute Jacques Monod, Paris and Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA), he joined the University of Pune and headed the Department of Biotechnology for several years prior to his current position, He received many awards including Best teacher Award and he published over 100 research articles and book chapters, an US Patent and a Textbook on Fundamentals of Molecular Biology (Oxford University Press). He supervised research of 20 Ph.D. students who are now well placed in India and abroad.
